VYNG

"We don't hide cracks in this family."

A collection of impactful relationships from home, Deerington and Trench.

TACHOME "TUCK" DHAUME

[personal profile] bardbarous

Vyng's best friend and life partner. They feed off of each other's idiocy and poor decisions, and they're codependent in ways that are easy for other people to exploit.

But whenever shit gets real? Tuck is a reliable, loving partner and father who puts his family first. Always. Vyng trusts him more than anyone here — even if that means letting Tuck venture into the jaws of death alone.

He's also protective of Tuck's emotional well-being. Vyng knows how soft and sensitive Tuck can be behind the chaos.

Deerington

Not long after their arrival, Vyng caught a glimpse of the emotional toll his own reckless behavior has on Tuck's sense of security and wellbeing. Vyng promised him he would try to be more careful when using his elemental powers, which were already volatile to begin with. It's a promise he largely kept...but part of him still felt guilty over the gamble he was taking every time he put himself in harms way by commanding the elements.

After a series of life-shattering events stacked on top of one another, their mutual sexual tension led to some smooching. It was awkward and weird. But surprisingly comforting in its own way too. While Tuck has zero inclination to revisit that day for his own reasons, Vyng doesn't push him. They've got a good thing going as-is, and he is content with it.

FAT BILLIE

Son. Best buddy. Teacher. Vyng would be hard-pressed to pick just one word to describe his relationship with Billie. Even though Vyng served as Billie's mother figure back home, Billie's presence often stabilized both Vyng's powers and his mood.

Vyng and Tuck don't always agree on how to best raise him. But they always, always put Billie first.

Even if their little buddy is living his best life back home, his influence still remains a major part of his and Tuck's lives. Not a day goes by that Vyng doesn't think of him. Thanks to an amethyst billhook he forged at the Summoning Stones (aka the Billiehook), he and Tuck can magically relive memories of this sweet baby boy.

But the Billiehook is more than just a novel keepsake. When Vyng lost himself underneath a mountain of spirits in May 2021, a mysterious vision of Billie's shadow guided Vyng back to his humanity. This experience reinforced the importance of Vyng's bonds with other people — not just nature — and the need to nurture those relationships.

MICHAEL

[personal profile] eudaimonikos

Formerly known as Gourdy. Vyng was instantly charmed by this tentacle-y, telepathic creature with its beautiful blue flames. Michael made him swear to tell nobody about his true form, and Vyng has kept his promise.

Since then, the two have struck up a close friendship. Michael is possibly the only person who understands the full range of Vyng's internal conflict toward shapeshifting vs. elemental mastery, thanks to an unfortunate memshare event that showed Vyng's falling out with Eagle. A conversation with Michael afterward served as a reminder not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, regardless of how Vyng chooses to reinvent himself.

When Vyng lost himself in Deerington, Michael was the one who stayed by his side and kept him grounded. Simply put, he's the Sleeper who's seen Vyng at his most vulnerable, and their friendship is all the stronger for it.

GLITCH

[personal profile] glitchinthesystem

The first person to ever chew Vyng out for his reckless use of Elemental Mastery. Thanks to some dreamscape strangeness in January, he saw how devastated Glitch would be if Vyng ever died. Glitch was often the second person to come to mind whenever Vyng made risky choices with his more volatile powers.

He and Vyng occasionally have ill-advised misadventures together.

MAKO

[profile] arclighting

Mako saw some of Vyng's ugliest parts and didn't flinch.

They're different in many ways on the surface. But at their core? He and Mako are family men who will sacrifice anything to keep their loved ones safe...even if that means doing things they're not necessarily proud of.

He is also one of the few people who understands the extent of Vyng's complicated feelings toward shapeshifting. An important conversation with him in January 2021 renewed Vyng's desire to reinvent himself. It was thanks to Mako's generosity that Vyng was able to learn basic air bending techniques from the Air Nation. Even now, Mako's sick fire and lightning bending forms serve as an inspiration to try harder.

On the other hand, he would have zero problems copying off of Mako's exams if they were classmates. Mako, somehow, likes him anyway. Nice.

TAKASHI "SHIRO" SHIROGANE

[personal profile] shiro2hero

A fellow speed demon with a penchant for puns!

Thanks to this shared trait, Shiro gifted Vyng with the blade sailer from his childhood. Because of what the blade sailer represents, Vyng never would have wished it for himself. But because of Shiro, his old childhood toy is now able to take on a new meaning: A symbol of friendship found in the present. He's done Vyng a greater kindness than he realizes.

For that reason, Shiro's later gentle admonishment to cherish his mother's memory — instead of giving up things from the past as a show of "letting go" — helped shape his later sacrifice at the Summoning Stones.

He wishes Shiro wasn't so hard on himself. But Vyng knows he's still burdened by the trauma of war and the responsibilities of leadership. So he skips the lectures and tries to give Shiro a safe space to relax sometimes.

In short, Shiro has been an amazing friend since the day they met. This is someone Vyng would absolutely call from a ditch at 3AM and not even think twice.

ADAM W.

[personal profile] saltyadam

Shiro's husband. A smart, inquisitive man who has little patience for most people — except for himbos with a penchant for puns. 😘

Adam has way more braincells than him and Shiro combined. He's lucky Adam has his back. In fact, it was Adam who administered the antidote that prevented Vyng from losing himself again in May 2021. Vyng, of course, has Adam's back in return.

Somehow, Adam hasn't grown tired of him. He's even offered to teach Vyng anything he wants to know about modern technology. (Vyng still thinks it's only a matter of time before he stabs him with a spoon, though.)

AVATAR KORRA

[personal profile] avatar_state

Vyng doesn't know Korra well on a personal level. Most of what he's learned about her is actually from Mako. Still, Korra was the first elementalist Vyng ever met in Deerington. He can't help but admire her. Not only that, but Korra used spirit bending to help Vyng reclaim his humanity in May 2021. So he owes her quite a lot as well.

QROW BRANWEN

[personal profile] bolstafir

Listen, Vyng and Qrow didn't fuck. Absolutely not. No way. And Vyng will never sleep with anyone from Remnant for the rest of his days.

(They totally fucked. It didn't end well. Their friendship hasn't been the same since.)

This whole mess has helped renew Vyng's interest in addiction counseling and other types of social work, though, so at least there's that. In the meantime, Oscar might have to keep setting up playdates for these two idiots if he wants them to hang out like they used to.

RUBY ROSE

[personal profile] onekindsoul

She's a full-grown woman, and yet her brand of chaos reminds Vyng of Billie sometimes. Ruby has earned her place on Vyng's list of people who can bring comfort and cheer by breaking into his home to steal cookies. (A short list indeed!)

She helped Tuck while he tried to restore Vyng's memories with the Billiehook. And though Ruby likely doesn't expect anything in return, Vyng still feels like he owes her one.

She's also got some pretty sick luggage cart moves.
